Looks like gamers everywhere agree with my Bad Company 2 vs. Modern Warfare 2 post as Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has scored better than Modern Warfare 2 by users and critics alike.
With a user score of 90 Bad Company 2 mops the floor with Infinity Wards inferior Modern Warfare 2 which scored a low but apt 3.3 user score, no doubt due to the backlash caused by Infinity Wards blatant refusal to ensure the PC version of the game was up to standards set by DiCE. Note the PC score of both games are much closer at 86 and 90 respectively, this is due to the fact many websites give the same score to a game on multiple platforms, for example IGN gave the game 9.5 on the PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and all the reviews were the exact same meaning they played it on a console and therefore avoided the deficiencies in the PC port. user scores are far more accurate as they tally paying customers reviews of the game and they have played it on the platform they’re criticizing the game on, so the 86/90 difference is far more significant if you take into account many of these scores aren’t for the PC but the consoles.
Gameplanet had nothing nice to say about Modern Warfare 2′s horrible, unplayable, glitch and cheater ridden multiplayer:
Matchmaking is as woeful as you would expect, and the campaign mode is too short and plays like it was designed by a committee. The Special Ops mode fails to lift the uniform score of this game to anything worthy of remembrance.
Which was of course backed up by user reviews, someone saying
This game is master fail at all, there is no dedicated server, Hackers are still fraggin around, I will never buy IW’s game ever since they announced there is nothing wrong with game last month. No problem? Screw u IW, there are avrage 2 wall hackers and 1 aimbotter per fking server, have you guys played this fking multiplayer ever? and Lag problem is horrifing gameplay at ALL, and single player was O.K, but not great as M.W1. so there was NO PROGRESS FROM MW1 AT ALL. now go do something better IW, you guys downed me down to the hell, good-bye.
While compared to Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Gameplanet summed it up nicely:
DICE’s latest installment in the Battlefield series sets the bar – we just wish there were more developers trying to surpass it.
Or Terence S,
As evidence of my lack of sleep after the day of release, this is a spot on Battlefield game. I don’t know why most of these reviews are concentrated on a single player. Battlefield games are a monster that you know all too well. Multiplayer is at the heart of it all. I enjoyed that this game doesn’t have the crappy player who just runs around and knifes everyone, like MW2 did. I’m certain there’s certain exploits, but none inherintly obvious. Also, when I get killed because the freaking building falls on me, that definitely gives a game bonus points in my book.
Maybe Activision will learn something from this and make Modern Warfare 3 not suck so that gamers actually buy the game instead of pirate it. Then again Bobby Kotick is a douchebag who probably will never let that happen, he’s much more comfortable milking franchises dry than truly pushing forward which is why he will fail.
